Getting Trained in Muay Thai

The training of Muay Thai in Thailand is a very tough one. The training is aimed at making the students reach peak levels of physical and mental toughness. This is achieved by making the students undergo strenuous exercises such as running, weightlifting, shadow boxing, and medicine ball exercises. The instructors or the coaches of Muay Thai in Thailand use special Thai pads, heavy bags, sparring, and focus mitts in training the students. The training is conducted in such a fashion that the students gradually become tough and strong. Each round of exercise or training schedule lasts between 3 and 5 minutes, with a rest period of 1 to 2 minutes. The coaches conduct each exercise in many rounds. The whole day is spent in the practice of all the exercises in a planned routine. This helps the trainees to become completely conversant with all aspects of the Muay Thai training regimen.

Apart from the physical exercises, the instructors teach the students how to deliver various types of punches, elbow strikes, kicks, and knee attacks. The trainers wear thick Thai pads that cover their forearms and hands and also wear separate belly pads in the abdominal area. The students are made to attack the instructors with all types of strikes and kicks, so that they become perfect in the art of Muay Thai boxing in the various training centers, including the ones in Phuket, Thailand.

The focus mitts help the students develop good hand speed in attack, deliver multiple combinations of punches, elbow strikes, and counter-punches, timing the punches and improving the power of punching, and becoming perfect in defensive techniques. The punching of heavy bags strengthens the forearms, legs, and body of the trainees. Sparring is practiced to improve the skills, strategies, techniques, ranges of attacking and defending, and the timing. At the same time, care is taken to avoid unnecessary injuries to the trainees.
